An Enhanced Driver's License (EDL) is a type of identification that can be used for both land and sea travel. It is part of the Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative (WHTI), which allows United States citizens to enter the USA by land or sea using only an EDL for identification, when traveling from certain countries. EDLs are useful documentation for American citizens who take a cruise that leaves from a U.S. port and returns to the same port at the end of the trip. They can also be used as proof of citizenship for certain purposes. Some examples of enhanced driver's licenses or EDLs include: * A passport card * An Enhanced Driver's License (EDL) * An Enhanced Identification Card (EIC) ![]() ![]() Note: An EDL is not sufficient for air travel and requires a valid U.S. passport to enter the United States by air.
